About

The Bereavement Help Point

A safe place to talk to people who understand what you are going through.

Most of us are faced with the death of someone we love at some point in our lives.  Grief can be relentless, debilitating and isolating.  So few people really know what to say to someone who is grieving, which can leave the person feeling alone and with the feeling that there is no one who actually understands what they are feeling.

The Bereavement Help Points in Ketton, Uppingham and Oakham are there to enable people over 18 years of age who have experienced any type of loss, to share their feelings and emotions with like minded people.

Please note: The Bereavement Help Point is not a 1-2-1 counselling service, but this may be accessible via referral to one of our partners.

It can be a great relief to be able to talk to people who understand exactly what you are going through.   Everyone is welcome at the bereavement points, we just ask that everyone is prepared to:

  • Listen sensitively to others

  • Show respect to each other

  • Respect the different views each individual may hold

  • Recognise that each person’s grief is unique to them

  • Respect each other’s right to find their own path

  • Offer support but not tell others what to do

  • Respect each individual’s right to confidentiality

In return, The Bereavement Help Point will provide a drop-in bereavement service which offers information on bereavement and also:

  • Offer our community a where they can access information

  • Offer our community a safe, supportive area to talk

  • Ensure that everyone has a chance to speak

  • Ensure that everyone is listened to

  • Not tolerate abusive behaviour

  • Respect confidentiality at all times unless we feel the person is in danger
